Engagement Photography FAQs

Here are some of the frequently asked questions I receive.

get in touch to see if I’m available

1. What is an engagement photography session?

An engagement photography session is a professional photoshoot that captures the excitement and love between a couple before their wedding day. It’s a chance to document this special chapter and create beautiful photos for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and keepsakes.

2. Why should we book an engagement session?

Engagement sessions are a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding…We get to know each other, so we’re best friends when the wedding day arrives.

3. When is the best time to schedule our engagement session?

The best time for engagement photos depends on your timeline and preferences. Most couples book their session 6-12 months before their wedding. For outdoor sessions, I recommend the golden hour—an hour or 2 after sunrise or before sunset—for the most flattering natural light.

4. Where can we have our engagement photos taken?

You can choose a location that’s meaningful to you, such as the spot where you first met, your favorite park, or a beautiful scenic location in Kent or London. If you’re unsure, I can recommend the best engagement photo locations in Kent, from stunning beaches to charming urban settings. I also have a pre wedding shoot location guide.

5. What should we wear for our engagement photos?

Wear outfits that make you feel confident and reflect your personality. Coordinate your looks with complementary colors and avoid bold patterns or logos. For variety, consider bringing one outfit but a jacket you could maybe take off. Check out my What to Wear for Engagement Photos Guide for more inspiration.

6. Can we bring props or pets to our engagement session?

Absolutely! Props and pets can add a personal touch to your photos. Whether it’s your dog, a meaningful item, or something related to your hobbies, we can incorporate it into your session to make the photos truly yours. I know of a supplier who even looks after dogs at weddings!

7. What happens if the weather is bad on the day of our session?

Don’t worry! I’ll work with you to reschedule your engagement session at no extra cost if the weather isn’t ideal. Overcast days can actually provide soft, flattering light, but we’ll ensure you have the best conditions possible. That said, if you fancy splashing about in the rain I’m all for it.

8. How long does an engagement photography session last?

Engagement sessions typically last 1-2 hours, depending on the locations and the variety of shots you’d like. This allows plenty of time to relax, have fun, and capture a mix of poses and candid moments.

9. How many photos will we receive, and how will they be delivered?

You’ll receive a gallery of 100 high-resolution edited images, delivered via an online gallery. These photos are perfect for sharing, printing, or using in your wedding stationery.

10. How far in advance should we book our engagement session?

It’s best to book your engagement session in advance to secure your preferred date and allow time for any necessary planning. For peak seasons, we recommend booking earlier, as I do have very limited time in wedding season.

11. What if we’re camera shy or not comfortable posing?

Most couples feel nervous at first, but don’t worry! I specialise in creating a relaxed, fun environment to capture natural, candid moments.
